The Kazakh National Orchestra of Folk Instruments named after Kurmangazy held a concert titled “The Strings of the Centuries,” dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the outstanding figure of Kazakh culture — People’s Artist of Kazakhstan, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, conductor, and composer Akhmet Kuanuly Zhubanov.

One of Akhmet Zhubanov’s greatest contributions to the development of national musical art was the establishment, in 1934, of an ensemble of 11 dombra players. This ensemble laid the foundation for the Orchestra of Kazakh Folk Instruments, which is now known worldwide as the Kazakh National Orchestra of Folk Instruments named after Kurmangazy.

As part of the event, the exhibition “A Figure Who Elevated the Spirit of the Nation” was presented, organized by the Memorial Museum of Akhmet and Gaziza Zhubanov. The exhibition featured archival documents, rare photographs, original manuscripts, musical scores, books, and personal belongings of Akhmet Zhubanov, reflecting his life journey and rich creative legacy.

In the concert program, alongside the National Orchestra, performed Honored Workers of Kazakhstan Tolkyn Zabirova and Nurken Ashirov, recipient of the “Excellence in Culture” award Erlan Daurenbekov, winners of international competitions Assel Rakymzhan, Aidos Zhabagin, Azamat Shnarov, Nematillo Zikrullaev, as well as the children’s choir of the specialized boarding school for gifted children named after Akhmet Zhubanov.

The Chief Conductor of the orchestra is Order of “Qurmet” recipient Abilai Tilepbergen.

The concert “The Strings of the Centuries” became a significant cultural event, highlighting the enduring value of Akhmet Zhubanov’s creative legacy and his outstanding contribution to the development of Kazakh professional music.
